Last week, I received news that still hasn’t quite sunk in — I’ve been named a Top 5 Agent at Compass in DC and Maryland for my 2024 sales production.
It’s an incredible professional honor… but what makes the timing truly special is this weekend.
Mother’s Day.
Because while this award has my name on it, the story behind it starts long before me — in 1979, when my mom stepped off a plane from India wearing a sari, holding a Master’s degree, and hoping to build a life in a new country.

Despite her academic pedigree, she started from scratch. For a time, she worked in a factory as an assembler. Eventually, she got her foot in the door at Sunkist Growers as a temporary accounts payable clerk — and over the next 35 years, she rose to become the second-highest-ranking woman in her department. She earned her MBA at night while raising two daughters. She didn’t complain. She didn’t cut corners. She just did the work.
She focused on her career while raising us, not knowing that I was watching. But I was — closely. And what I saw shaped everything I’ve come to believe about grit, perseverance, and showing up with integrity. Her story became my blueprint. There was no other way.
And now I find myself in her shoes — showing my boys, by example, what it means to work hard, to build something of value, to do it with heart. I know they’re watching, too.
This recognition isn’t just a career milestone. It’s a tribute to the legacy of a woman who paved the way. To my mother, who modeled strength, sacrifice, and unwavering drive. And to the generations that follow — including my two sons, who I hope will carry these values forward long after me.
If you’ve referred a client, partnered with me, or simply believed in what I do — thank you. You’ve helped shape this journey in ways I’ll never forget.
This one’s for the moms. And for all the little eyes watching us, learning how to lead.
With love and gratitude,

"Gitika is the most proactive, innovative, and communicative realtor with whom I have ever worked. I found her to be unique in that she not only recommended upgrades and improvements to the house, but also took on the role of project manager, obtaining excellent quotes from high quality vendors and ensuring the work was completed on time. Gitika developed strategies for marketing and pricing and provided a timeline from start to finish AND she stuck to the plan, resulting in multiple offers."
